Iliac Bay: Tower of Dawn is an unofficial expansion for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, developed under the Beyond Skyrim banner. The events of Iliac Bay are intended to work concurrently or shortly after the events of Skyrim, and whilst that game focused on events solely in the province of Skyrim, Iliac Bay provides an expansion for the player to enter the provinces of High Rock and Hammerfell.
The magic-infused home of the Bretons has always been known for rugged individualism. While the days of finding a hill and becoming a king are long past, that intrepid spirit is alive and well in the post-war landscape of High Rock. Kingdoms squabble over what resources they can procure with a lack of imperial trade, while mages and knights work to secure the wilds from ever-present witch covens and monsters. All while rumors of the resurgence of shadow magic, a powerful and volatile discipline that can change the course of reality, brew in the background.
The land of the Redguards has experienced near-constant strife and conflict. Ages ago, the ancient land of Yokuda sank, and Redguards swept into Tamriel in their Ra Gada, or "Warrior Wave". Shortly after, the Redguards found themselves at odds, between the traditionalist Crowns and the more imperial-aligned Forebears. This fueled conflict that lasted until both sides found a common enemy in the Aldmeri Dominion. Twenty years after the Great War and the White-Gold Concordat, Hammerfell works to find an identity independent of the Empire, and secure their new-found state from the invading forces which surround them..
History[edit]
Development on the project began in 2011, shortly after the release of Skyrim, with three separate projects loosely working together under the banner of Beyond Skyrim: High Rock, titled Hochfels: Eastern Kingdoms, High Rock: The Direnni West, and Northpoint. The Northpoint project left Beyond Skyrim in 2014, while the other two consolidated under the title of High Rock: The Direnni West. Development of Hammerfell: Forge of Warriors began in 2012. These two projects merged in 2014/2015 to become Iliac Bay: Tower of Dawn.
Iliac Bay was later rebooted in 2021 with a new heightmap and a reset to worldbuilding. This reboot also saw the team move away from their original design philosophy of making a mod in homage to previous Elder Scrolls games, primarily Daggerfall, and towards a more standard Skyrim mod design.
