The Synod is one of the two major magical institutions to be created in the aftermath of the dissolution of the Mages' Guild.
Origins
The Synod shares the same origin as the College of Whispers, where both were formed by former members of the Mages' Guild after it was dissolved. However, unlike the College of Whispers, the Synod was formed by the more conservative and mainstream members of the Mages' Guild, making them more strict in the way they teach magic.
Organization
The Synod functions in a similar vein to the Mages' Guild, with a strict hierarchy of Mages, with higher-ranked mages giving orders to their subordinates. Regional branches of the Synod are called "conclaves", and many of these conclaves are housed in buildings which formerly belonged to the Mages' Guild.
Criticism
The Synod is criticized by other mages, especially those within the College of Whispers, of using their magical knowledge for political gain, rather than for unlocking the secrets of magic and enhancing their own knowledge. They're also accused of keeping most of their magical knowledge within the higher ranks of the Synod, preventing lower ranking members from learning certain spells.
Notable Members
-First Adjunct Cadius Venucius: Leader of the Bruma Conclave of the Synod. -Elintius Rentilia: Journeyman of the Synod stationed at the Bruma Conclave.
