Manual Texturing tools are used to paint textures and use the layer merging techniques. It can export via dds plugin the native file formate for Skyrims textures. It can also be used to overhaul existing or algorythm-created textures. Automated texturing tools are being used to generate textures.

Automated texturing tools like CrazyBump or MindTex 2 generate textures via automated algorithm settings, however often these have to be adjusted to fit the older Skyrim texture sets and not the current standard of PBR texture sets.
